Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP) or Parti Demokratik Malaysia, was formed by Wee Choo Keong in 1998, after he was expelled from Democratic Action Party (DAP) due to his fall-out and failure of revolting against Lim Kit Siang, the Secretary-General of DAP at that time. Wee Choo Keong became the Secretary-General of MDP.
MDP contested in the Malaysian General Election 1999 and 2004 but failed to win any seat.
Wee Choo Keong became the only candidate in 2004 but he lost his deposit in Bukit Bintang. He contested again in the 8th March 2008 12th General Election at the Wangsa Maju seat but under the Pakatan Rakyat's Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate and symbol which he successfully won the seat that time.[1]
Wee Choo Keong has since become a Member of Parliament for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and MDP has since become inactive and considered as defunct.
